Short Summary:

On a research mission in one of the most remote regions of the world, former Navy SEAL Eric Slade and Dr. Anna Fayne are caught in a mysterious storm. Catapulted through a rift in space-time, they are marooned on a lost world.

Struggling to survive and desperate to find a way home, they must confront the dangers of this savage land—a dark wizard and his army of undead—a warrior queen and her horde of fierce Neanderthals that stands against him—and a legendary treasure with the power to open the gateway between worlds, or to destroy them all: the Eye of the Storm.

My Thoughts:

I received this book in exchange for an honest review, this does not affect my opinion of the book.

The general concept to this was so interesting.  I loved the ideas behind it and the general direction that Mr. Cavallo wanted to take the story.  However, I just found it so difficult to get into the story.  I finished it because I wanted to know what would happen, but the storyline itself was very difficult for me to follow and by the end I had absolutely no idea how much time had passed for them in an dimension or universe, which made the whole story quite confusing to me.

The characters were well done but I had a hard time connecting to them because I feel like I missed out on a few years of their lives and thus was unsure about what they actually thought.  However, I had no issue picturing what was going on throughout the story.  Mr Cavallo did an amazing job at creating images in my head about what was going on.

Overall, I found this book very descriptive but just as confusing.  It seems I need a book that has a clear timeline and that allows me to follow the characters as they go along through their adventures.  2.5 out of 5 beans, I read it once and don’t plan on picking it up again.  Side note: the cover is really cool looking.
