In No particular order, these are some of the books that came out in 2016 that I did not get the chance to read (which I feel terrible about…because why can’t I read all of the books in the world damn it!!) although I do believe I set a new personal record and nearly 100 books in 2016. Go me!
The sad part about this is that I actually own the book itself. I see it from where I’m sitting right now, it’s one of those that I saw and just couldn’t not read and then I ended up not reading it… Epic fail!! Hence why it’s on my list of books I need to read this year. Set in the nineteenth century, this book follows two characters. One a young woman who is determined that she doesn’t need a man in order to live her life how she wants to, which involves being a scientist against all wishes. The other character is a young man, who is on his first mission as a spy. When the two meet they agree to pretend to fall for each other until he is asked to watch her and her travel companions. This came out last April (yea…)
There’s three main characters here whose lives intertwined in crazy crazy ways! Agnes is going to die in 100 days. Moria is Agnes’ best friend, over protective, and super tall for which she gets teased mercilessly. Boone used to be friends with both girls until her did something, but now his dad is dead and his mom is too sad to leave the house. The three are once again thrown together for an unknown reason and this book sounds so freaking heartbreaking, how could I not want to read it!! Not to mention the cover is absolutely gorgeous!
I have a goal to read more diverse books this year, and I think that this one gets up there. This is the story about Pen, who dresses ‘like a guy’ but isn’t transgender, just more comfortable in that. Which I can relate to, to a point for sure. It’s interesting because I’m not sure that I know much about this book, but I have to say that the cover grabs me and for some reason I find myself drawn to Pen and her story. I really want to know what happens and what’s really going on! Ever had a book like that?
I’m a huge fan of superhero books. Like just the concept in general makes me absurdly happy for a person in the mid-twenties. This story takes place in a land where superpowers a normal, but we follow a girl who has no superpower, Jess. She stumbles upon an internship for one of the most notorious super villains and ends up close to her long-time crush, Abby. But she finds a sudden attraction between her and another intern, the mysterious “M”. And honestly, this story just sounds super adorable! But then they thrown in a subplot of something super dramatic! I really want to see what this pace is about and if they are looking for more people to live there…
Another book that just makes me smile reading the description. This story follows Jess, who hasn’t seen her father since she was a boy named Jeremy. As a soon to be high school graduate, she has decided to go to her father’s wedding, but he may or may not actually know that. Luckily her friend, Chunk, is going to be coming with her. They take the road trip from California to Chicago and learn so much along the way. This sounds like a romance waiting to happen and like a lot of fun will be had on a journey similar to this. I’ve always wanted to go on a road trip but haven’t so, GIVE ME!!
