Series I Want To Finish This Year

In contradiction to the post that I had two weeks ago about series I’ll never finish, I’m putting up a very ambitious post of the series I want to finish this year.  Hopefully at least some will happen, fingers crossed for all of them!  There could also be others that I end up reading and I’ll try and have a year in review at the end of the year, but we shall see what ends up happening! I’m not adding in the novelas to this list, just so you know,

The Invisible Library by Genevieve Cogman

I say that I want to finish this series, but the fourth book doesn’t come out until December and I realized that there is a fifth book, so my actual goal is to catch up.  I loved the first book in this series and I’m planning on reading the second one this month. This is a series about an Invisible Library and the people/creatures who work in them.  There’s time travel, steampunk, magic, science, dragons, and books, so how could I say no?  Not to mention I really love these covers!

Finishing School by Gail Carriger

I’ve read the first three books in this series and own the first two, but for some reason I just haven’t gotten my hands on the final book. This is the story of a finishing school for Victorian era girls to become spies and assassins. There’s steampunk, supernatural, badass female leads, and a touch of romance enough to keep us all happy. These books aren’t long and never really take me longer than one sitting to read.

The Lotus War by Jay Kristoff

Why do more people not seem to know about this series? Jay Kristoff is a wonderful, brilliant writer and I love his writing and this was the first book I read by him.  Well, I’ve read the first in this series. Plus I own the other two and have had them for a long while but have not seem to have gotten to them yet.  Basically, our main character and her father are sent by the Shogun (the leader of their world) to find a creature that is rumored to not exist, if they fail he will kill them. So, when they find the creature and capture it, Yukiko finds that she can hear its thoughts and knows that it would rather have her dead than help her. This was my first real exposure to steampunk and I really need to finish it!

Shades of Magic by V.E. Schwab

This is a series that basically everyone is talking about. I have read the first book and own the rest of the series and they are so pretty together (but I do need the hardback of the first book…grrr). This is the story about three parallel Londons that are all different, but the majority of people cannot travel between.  One of our main characters makes a living as a royal messenger between the worlds and a side job as a smuggler, which ends up getting him into trouble. I need to review the first book before reading the rest sadly.

The Grisha by Leigh Bardugo

Alright, I don’t actually know what this series is about and I haven’t started it, but I’ve been eyeing it up for several years now and it’s about time that I do it.  I’m not buying these as of now, I’m simply renting them from the library. There isn’t much for me to say other than I believe the Six of Crows series is also set in this world if I understand correctly, and that’s one that I may hopefully also read this year, but we will see!

Earth & Sky by Megan Crewe

I’m ashamed to say that I have had this series sitting and waiting for me for quite a long time and it’s about time that I finish it! I have read the first book, again, and I gave it four out of five, and I remember looking at the premise of the second book and thinking…meh.  But I really just want to give it a shot again and read through the end of the series and then I can say that I finished them. From what I remember, Skyler is our main character and for as long as she can remember she’s been haunted with a foreboding sense that something was completely wrong, but nothing ever happens. But then she learns that Earth is at the mercy of alien scientists and has been for a long time.  She ends up joining Win, a time-traveling alien rebel, to try and stop them. First book had sexual tension galore and time travel, that’s what I remember…
